Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, which is a rare honour for any film or cinema production, especially an American one
Story
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job for which she is ill-suited, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers have persuaded the US and British governments to allow them to use real locations to film the series, including most recently the US Embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only location that was inaccessible was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador. Although accurately described as occupying the largest parcel of residential land (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house on the outskirts of the city for filming.
Keri Russell’s performance here is nothing short of a revelation
Her portrayal of American diplomat Kate Wyler is a fascinating mix of strength, humor, intelligence, vulnerability and, oh my god, sexiness. “Diplomat” deftly lampoons the realm of international diplomacy and its inhabitants.
This series looks good, sounds good, feels good — it’s supremely funny and intelligent adult entertainment
And while the world has yet to cave to the story’s scam, the incredibly talented and diverse cast makes it easy to believe that most governments are run by people who never emotionally left high school. All Netflix needs to do now is announce a second season and let Russell and company continue to work their magic.
