Story
After escaping from an island prison where he spent 14 years for being wrongly accused of treason, Edmond Dantès returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to take revenge on the men who betrayed him. With an estimated budget of €42.9 million, The Count of Monte Cristo is the most expensive French film of 2024. When Albert sees Hydee singing and playing the guitar, it’s very obvious that she isn’t even touching the strings half the time.
I was never bored
Not once did I find inconsistencies. The landscapes and sets were to die for. The acting never took me out of the story, it keeps you there from beginning to end.
I love cinema and theatre
French cinema produces a lot of forgettable films (in my opinion), many entertaining, some great ones and here and there a film that actually does. The Count of Monte-Cristo is the latter. I rarely find a film that presents love, friendship, betrayal, courage, loneliness, care, revenge and more, at least in a decent way.
Nothing felt rushed
The three hours were well worth it and it felt like less than two. I encourage you to watch this film, it has many qualities and will not be a waste of time. Now, if you are a Dumas fan, your opinion will definitely differ.
